In partnership with Eccaplan and assisted by the Amazon Conservation and Sustainable Development Institute (Idesam), Vulcabras is committed to planting 200 seedlings in the São Sebastião de Uatumã region, aiming to assist in the recovery of the Amazon biome in the region with the planting of native trees. This partnership was made possible by Idesam.
Learn More
Vulcabras, with the support of Eccaplan Sustainability Consulting and Idesam, made possible the planting and maintenance of 200 native species from the Amazon biome, providing increased local biodiversity and water security, as well as carbon capture and storage.
The chosen location for planting the seedlings was the Uatumã Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS), located in the state of Amazonas in the municipalities of São Sebastião Uatumã and Itapiranga, about 330 km from Manaus.
The reserve has a total area of 424,430 hectares and includes 20 riverside communities along the Uatumã River and its tributaries. According to the last socioeconomic diagnosis, conducted in 2006 by the managing bodies, the RDS has approximately 1,300 residents, distributed among about 250 families.
IDESAM
Idesam is a civil society organization that, since 2004, seeks to promote, encourage, and structure new development models for the Amazon, generating quality of life for its populations, conserving the forest, and combating the effects of the climate emergency. Today, the NGO promotes the valorization and sustainable use of natural resources among communities and rural producers.

What are the project SDGs
The project Vulcabras | Mizuno Planting includes 4 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which are:

CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION
Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. This goal aims to guarantee universal access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation for all people by 2030. It recognizes the crucial importance of water and sanitation for health, sustainable development, and poverty eradication. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to improve water quality, promote efficient use of water resources, protect water-related ecosystems, and develop adequate sanitation infrastructure. This includes access to proper and safe sanitation facilities, as well as the promotion of appropriate hygiene practices.

CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. This goal aims to address the challenges posed by climate change, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to adverse impacts already occurring, and promoting climate resilience. Achieving this goal requires actions at various levels, from local to international, aiming at mitigating emissions, developing adaptation strategies, implementing environmental policies, and mobilizing resources to finance measures to combat climate change. SDG 13 recognizes the urgency of acting to avoid the worst effects of climate change and to protect the environment for future generations.

LIFE ON LAND
Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss. This goal aims to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, including forests, wetlands, mountains, and drylands, as well as the protection of biodiversity and natural habitats. It seeks to promote sustainable land management practices, restoration of degraded ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, combating desertification and land degradation, and preventing species extinction. SDG 15 recognizes the fundamental role of terrestrial ecosystems in the health of the planet, in mitigating climate change, and in human well-being.

PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. This goal aims to strengthen collaboration between countries and across the public, private, and civil society sectors to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It seeks to promote inclusive and multi-stakeholder partnerships, mobilize financial, technological, and human resources, and strengthen international cooperation to support developing countries in implementing the SDGs. SDG 17 also emphasizes the importance of technology transfer, capacity building, and the establishment of monitoring and reporting systems to track progress towards the SDGs. It recognizes that achieving the SDGs requires coordinated and collaborative action at the global, regional, national, and local levels.
